Art's life ended as he lived it, in his garage after a great day of running the Bobcat and staying busy outdoors. He lived well and loved well. Arthur "Art" Edwin Swanstrom, 89, of Hermantown, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017, in his garage. Art was born in Beaver Bay, MN on March 21, 1928. He was a jack-of-all-trades and was always tinkering in his garage inventing whatever he needed. He was a truck driver by trade, and could move anything, whether he had the help or tools necessary. He had no fear and no pain. He married the love of his life, Joan (Reitan), on January 12, 1952, and they grew a huge, loving family. Art was well known for his willingness to give the shirt off his back. He was the first to volunteer to help someone in need. He made it his life's mission to make sure his family and friends felt loved and cared for. Art was preceded in death by parents; siblings; and daughter-in-law, Sherry Swanstrom. Art is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan; children, Randy, Vickie (Jay) Willman, Leann (Scott) Fahlsing, and Cheryl (Bart) Porter; grandchildren, Jan Black, Kiera (Matt) Sandberg, Ryan Willman, Corey (Julie) Willman, Dusty Willman, Jake (Kolby) Fahlsing, Matthew Wharton, Jordan (Emily) Fahlsing, Larissa (Reed) Paulson, and Tayler Porter; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Riley, Keagan, Matthew, Camden, Randy, Brady, Grayson, Axel, and Wilder; sister-in-law, Joyce Cooke; brother-in-law, Donald (Linda) Reitan; and many nieces and nephews. VISITATION: 10am Thursday, November 16th at Salem Lutheran Church, 4715 Hermantown Rd, with memorial service to follow at 11am. Per Art's request, please do not send flowers but instead pay it forward, as he always made every effort to do. Art is now at the Agape dinner "supper" with the Lord, telling him he is feeling "excellent" and asking for Him to pass the salt.
