Arlene Nira Thoreson, 85, of Hermantown, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, in Viewcrest Nursing Home with family by her side. Arlene was born on July 30, 1933, to George and Emma Alcumbrack in Duluth. Arlene graduated from St. James Baptiste in 1952, and married Donald Eugene Thoreson on May 22, 1954 at St. James Catholic Church. She worked as a medical records clerk for Polinsky Rehabilitation Center until she retired in 2003. She continued working at Hermantown Elementary School as a lunch lady and adored her time with the children. Arlene enjoyed baking, playing bingo, and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. Arlene is best known for making people laugh, being a little feisty, and sharing her famous baking treats with others, especially all those little kids who called her Grandma. Arlene is preceded in death by her parents; and her loving husband of 62 years. Arlene will be greatly missed by her three daughters, Sharon Blaylock, Karen (Jon) Sirois, and Pamela (Glen) Peterson; her cherished grandchildren, Chris (Karla), Janelle, Michael, Nicholas, Patrick, Brandon, and Brody; precious great-grandchildren, Brennan, Rylee, Alexis, Eliot and Brantley; sister, Jean Olson; sister-in-law, Lorraine Clancy; and many nieces, nephews, and friends, most of all best friend, Judy Cossin. You are not forgotten loved one, nor will you ever be. We miss you now, our hearts are sore, as time goes by, we miss you more, your loving smile, your gentle face, no one will ever fill your vacant place. Rest in peace little mama ~ We love you. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Viewcrest Nursing Home and her providers, especially Dr. S. Popham for the care and love given to her always. VISITATION: 10 am on Wednesday, December 19th, at St. Lawrence Church, 2410 Morris Thomas Road, with memorial service to follow at 11 am.
