Arlene Barbara (Holbein) Nystrom of East 8th street, Duluth, began life's next journey as one of God's chosen on March 30, 2013. Arlene was born on November 15, 1933 in Virginia, MN to Nicholas & Jennie Tomatz. In her youth she loved biking, & camping with her aunt & uncle, & was an avid swimmer. After graduating high school Arlene moved to Duluth, and attended St. Mary's School of Nursing earning her degree in nursing and was proud to be an RN at St. Mary's hospital in Duluth. She retired from Fieldview manor as head nurse. Arlene had a great passion for camping. She loved the outdoors, swimming, campfires and just being at "the lake". She loved her dogs, she had several in her life and talked of someday being able to see them again. Arlene had a generous heart; there were always friends or neighbors welcome for the holidays. She was a fabulous cook, mother and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Following the death of her first love & husband, James Holbein in 1975 Arlene raised their seven children by herself. She later met and wed Donald Nystrom until his death in 2008.  Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband James Holbein and second husband Donald Nystrom. Arlene is survived by her greatest life accomplishments, daughters Dorrine (Tim) Baker, Hermantown, Diane (Hugh) Holbein, Hibbing, Debra (Mark), Holbein, Hermantown, Danise Holbein St. Paul, Donell (Ted) Cackowski, Dulth ,sons James (Julie) Holbein, Duluth, Jay (Anita) Holbein, Duluth Arlene is also survived by four step-children, Mike Nystrom, Jill Turra, Michelle and Mary Nystrom, sister Gloria Nystrom of Virginia, MN, several nieces and nephews, and a very dear special nephew Ken (Judy) Anderson, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and longtime friend Jan Lavender.  Visitation will be held from Noon until the 1:00PM Memorial Service on April 6th 2013 in Sunrise Funeral Home in Hermantown, MN.
