Allen "Al" John Holte, 72, of Duluth, passed away at his home in Rice Lake Township on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. Allen was born in Duluth, Minnesota as the youngest of six children to Melvin "Popeye" and Esther Holte on April 13, 1946. He graduated from Duluth Denfeld High School in 1964 and graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) in 1968 with a Major in Sociology and a minor in Psychology. He was in Route Sales for Old Dutch Foods in northeastern Minnesota for 30 years and served part time with the 148th Fighter Wing, Minnesota Air National Guard in Duluth for 23 years. After retirement, he was a school bus driver for Voyageur Bus Company. Al enjoyed building, hunting, playing cards and lots of jovial visits with family and friends at the family log cabin, the "Spruce-A-Rosa". He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Al donated to his alma mater, to help out UMD students. Allen was preceded in death by his brothers, Dan, Bob and Ron Holte; and sister, Carol Berg. Allen is survived by his wife, Maryann; son, Jonathan (Janet); daughters, Dawn Holte and Michele (Kinnley) Proft; grandchildren, Christopher (Lexi), Gabriella and Josiah Larson, Analise (James) Je, Jenessa, Julianna, Justina, Jessica and Joanna Holte; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Larson and Ethan Je; and sister, Janis Holte (Tom) Pavlatos. Our family wishes to extend our gratitude to all of our family and friends that have enriched our lives so much. VISITATION: 10 am on Tuesday, April 2nd at Glen Avon Presbyterian Church, 2105 Woodland Ave, with funeral service to follow at 11 am. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery, 4798 Miller Trunk Highway.
