Patrick Alan Stingl, 54, beloved husband, father, son, brother, nephew and friend, passed away peacefully with family by his side, Friday, Oct. 4 in Duluth after a valiant battle against lung cancer.
Patrick was born May 22, 1965 in Duluth to parents Larry and Diane. His love for the great outdoors began early on Bowman Lake, where he spent his childhood exploring the nearby waters and forests with his mom, dad, brothers and many cousins. In his teenage years he moved to the Twin Cities where he graduated from Wayzata High School in 1983. But the beauty of the north woods lured him back to Duluth where he attended classes at the University of Wisconsin-Superior before beginning his career as an apprentice electrician. He quickly advanced to journeyman electrician. Pat was employed by Service Electric for the past 12 years where he was considered a great friend and coworker.
It was in Duluth where he met his bride-to be Amy (Rutledge). They married in 1996 and together created a wonderful life with three beautiful children, son Alec (19), daughters Molly (17) and Hattie (15).
The lakes, rivers and forests of northern Minnesota were Pat's playground. He was an avid outdoorsman for every season, enjoying countless snowmobiling and deer hunting trips with the Buckshot gang and Grand Marais boys. He was drawn to the majestic beauty of Lake Superior and enjoyed casting for king salmon out on the big lake with his father and son. Pat was kind, caring, honest, loyal and generous with a unique sense of humor. A talented cook he enjoyed creating special dishes for friends. He loved building big DNR permit worthy bonfires without the permit, playing cribbage and accumulating as many "big boy toys" as possible.
Above all, Patrick was a family man who loved spending time with his wife and children. Cherished times were spent at the beach on Park Point, with dear friends, the Grigals, at their cabin in Orr, fishing at the family cabin on Fredenburg Lake, music concerts, and taking family vacations to Florida, where the best days were the quiet days spent on a beautiful beach watching the waves roll in. Pat had dreams of one day retiring to Florida to live beachside with his wife. Pat was so proud of his children and instilled in them a life-long love for Mother Nature.
Patrick waged an incredible battle against cancer with grace, hope and courage. During his journey he and his family were surrounded by earthly angels who lifted us with love, prayer and strength. We are eternally grateful for your love and support. A special thank you to the caring staff at St. Luke's Hospital and the Mayo Clinic.
Patrick was preceded in death by grandparents, Martin and Marie Jensen, Ray and Ina Stingl; father-in-law, Glenn Rutledge; uncles, Ancel Jensen and Terry Stingl; sister-in-law, Tracy Rutledge; and cousin, Danny Jensen.
He is survived by his loving wife, Amy; son Alec; daughters, Molly and Hattie; mother, Diane Bach (Harold); father, Larry Stingl (Marlene Cieluch); brothers, Rick Stingl and James Stingl; step-brothers, Jay (Angie) Bach, Greg (Beth) Bach; mother-in-law, Jeanette Rutledge; and many special aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.
