Lauren "Butch" Sathers was born 5/26/1939 in Duluth, Minnesota, raised in Pike Lake where he spent most of his life. He was a graduate of Proctor High School and UMD. He also served in the US Naval Air Force. He lived for the last 13 years in Lakeville near Minneapolis with his daughter Wendy and her family, where he was a cherished part of their lives. Butch died at the age of 79, just 6 days short of his 80th birthday in St. Paul Minnesota surrounded by family.
He was a draftsman by trade and very much enjoyed, even well into his older years, helping create projects with and for people. He loved hockey and animals, especially dogs and horses, and working with wood. Many of us have his hand-made items and furniture in our homes.
His biggest joys in life though were his children and grandchildren. He loved watching his grandchildren grow and play in their various sports and activities, which were from the rink-side and sidelines in Lakeville to visits in Alaska, Florida, and North Carolina. He loved them all dearly. He was an avid reader particularly stories based on historical events. Most who knew him, knew he was the quintessential story-teller, many of which were certainly embellished for our entertainment and his!
He was preceded in death by his parents: Oscar and Edith, as well as his brother Gary, infant daughter, and sisters in law Hope and Chris.
He is survived by his children; Brad, Wendy (Mike Welsch), and Renee (Steve Ursuy), his grandchildren: Cory Sathers, (great grandchildren Kamahlia and Lucian), Kaylee Sathers, Henry Welsch, Iona Welsch, Eva Welsch, and Tyler Ursuy, his brothers Jim (Jackie) Sathers, Bob Sathers, and his many nieces and nephews.
