Gene Curtis "Curt" Russell Olcott, 85, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2020. He was born on February 5, 1935 in Barnum, MN to Doris (Brockman) and Russell Olcott.
Curt graduated from Denfeld High School in 1954 and went on to join the Duluth Air National Guard 148th Fighter Wing where he worked for 36 years. He married Janet "Bubbles" Hedeen in 1958, and they had two children.
Curt loved to hunt, fish, coach youth hockey, go to UMD Bulldog hockey games where he had season tickets for 25+ years, and spend most of his time at his home in Morgan Park where he had the most wonderful garden. He liked to tinker in the yard and garage, help neighbors and friends with projects, listen to the Saturday morning Polka Hour on the radio, visit lifelong friend Gus Pearson in California, and play the slots in Reno. Curt had a soft, kind heart to those who really knew him, and he always had funny sayings for everything (Papaisms as his granddaughter called them).
He was preceded in death by parents; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
Curt is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janet "Bubbles"; children, James (Chris) Olcott and Bonnie (Allan) Boyhtari; grandchildren, Ross, Glen, Alissa, and Alec; many great-grandchildren; brother, Steven (Linda) Olcott; sister, Margie (Dick) Randolph; and six nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many people who cared for Gene during his illness. The nurses on the ninth floor at Essentia/St. Mary's you made him feel like a celebrity. Edgewood Vista and Hospice nurses and aides, you maintained his dignity throughout. You are truly very special people.
Celebration of Life to be held at a later date, yet to be determined.
