Frank "Jimmy" Robert Franta, 80, of Duluth, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019, at Franciscan Health Center on Park Point.
Frank was born to Herbert Sr. "Chief" and Katherine (Koenker) Franta on Dec. 26, 1938 in New Ulm, MN. He attended Holy Trinity/Cathedral High School and graduated in 1957. He went on to attend Mankato State University until he was drafted by the United States Army, where he became a member of the Military Police. He also worked for many years for the Burlington Northern RR as a Division Special Agent. He was very proud of the fact that he got to work alongside of the Secret Service in 1986 during President Ronald Reagan's visit to South Dakota. He enjoyed woodworking, model trains, and attending races at local speedways.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne (Mattocks) Franta.
Frank is survived by his son, Thomas (Kellie) Franta; grandchildren, Sheyanne and Skyler; great-grandchildren, Jace and Ivia; and his brothers, Herbert Jr., Steven and David.
The family wishes to extend their everlasting and sincere gratitude to Frank's family of caregivers at Franciscan Health Center. They truly enhanced his quality of life and he loved them like family. They were his angels who watched over and protected him.
VISITATION: 10 am on Friday, February 1st at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, 1419 St. Benedict St., with funeral mass to follow at 11 am.
