Ann Maree (Muhar) Suknaich, 96, of Duluth, MN, and former long-time resident of Hibbing, MN, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at the Benedictine Health Center in Duluth.
Ann was the youngest of four children born to Nick and Eva (Lulich) Muhar. She was born in Virginia, MN, on April 18, 1922. The family moved to St. Paul Location, then to Keewatin. She attended Keewatin school and graduated from R.L. Downing High School in 1941. She married Joe Suknaich on November 29, 1941, one week before Pearl Harbor. They were married 58 years before Joe's passing in 1999. The couple first settled in Carson Lake, then Leetonia, and finally in Hibbing, MN. They raised two daughters, Dianne and Laura Jo. Ann was a stay-at-home mom for many years, then worked at the Carson Lake Post Office, Hallock's Clothiers, and finally, spent 20 years as an insurance coder at the Mesaba Clinic. She was a former member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Hibbing.
Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who took joy in her family. She and Joe enjoyed their travels and dancing, especially to polka music. A highlight of her travels was a trip to Croatia and Slovenia in 1984 after she retired. She was able to meet her father's youngest brother, Milan, and some of her father's nieces and nephews there.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; and her siblings.
Ann is survived by her daughters, Dianne (David) Kuiti and Laura Jo Johnson; grandchildren, Scott Kuiti, Mark (Christine) Kuiti, Sara (Jeremy) Hunt, and Paul (Alison) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Reed Johnson, Wyatt, Katherine, and Eli Hunt, and Owen and Lucy Charon; and several nieces and nephews.
Family wishes to extend a special thank you to Westwood Assisted Living, Essentia Hospice, and Benedictine Health Center for the care Ann was given.
