Raymond Kyllonen Obituary

Raymond Jacob Kyllonen, 90, died peacefully at Silver Bay Veterans Home surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 24, 2018.
He was born on March 5th, 1928 in Duluth, to Jacob and Lydia Kyllonen. Raymond was united in marriage to Helen Talo in Duluth on Sept. 30, 1950. He was a lifelong Duluth resident He served 4 years in the US Navy during World War II. He worked at Kelly How Thompson, Modern Distributing and The U.S. Post Office where he started out as a clerk and retired as the manager of retail services. He was a member of NARFE. He was a life member of the VFW 137. He participated in the Northland Honor Flight in 2012. For many years he volunteered for Meals on Wheels with his wife Helen and prepared taxes for AARP members.
He enjoyed being on a horse shoe league and bowled and golfed for the Post Office league. After retirement he stayed busy doing lots of projects with his son and daughters. Some of his hobbies included watching football, fixing outboard motors, playing cards, carpentry and being generous to all. Ray was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His family feels comfort to know he was taken to heaven to be with his loving wife Helen, his true soul mate. The two of them passed on the same day of the week, date, and time, only 11 years apart.
Preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Doris Budimir and Vivian Hill.
Survived by his children, Connie (Charlie) Ziegler of Cloquet, Cheryl (John) Grew of Duluth, Carrie (Phillip) Stocker of South Carolina, Carolyn (Sean) Pajak of Minneapolis, Raymond Jr. (Susan) Kyllonen of Duluth; grandchildren, Kelly and David Grew, Anna (Tyler) Hines, Alexander (Kelly) Stocker, and Tristian Pajak; four great grandchildren; sister, Margie Teitelbaum, & many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Silver Bay Veterans Home for their loving and dedicated care.
