Grace Anne Bergh, 89, peacefully passed into the arms of her heavenly Father on November 14, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Grace was born on March 23, 1928, to Ida & Carl Landin in Duluth, Minnesota. Grace enjoyed many summers, some of her happiest childhood days, on her grandfather's farm in Mahtowa, Minnesota. She graduated from Denfeld High School in 1945. On September 11, 1948, she married her lifelong partner James Bergh. They raised their five children in Hermantown, Minnesota.
Her Swedish roots made her proud of her heritage. She traveled to Sweden to connect with many relatives. Grace enjoyed cooking delicious meals, baking, car rides on the North Shore, reading, attending 10th Mountain Division alumni events, shopping, and catching up with friends and family on the telephone. The coffee pot was always on to make everyone feel welcome at her kitchen table.
Grace had a variety of jobs in her early years and was a full time mom and homemaker most of her life. She loved children and served as a foster parent for many years as her own children grew older.
She had a strong faith and was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church. Grace's greatest accomplishment was serving as the matriarch of her large family. She will never be forgotten and lives on in the lives of her loved ones.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; great-granddaughter, Scarlett; and many special friends.
She will be greatly missed by her five children, Paul (Sharon) Bergh of Ramsey, David Bergh of Bloomington, Timothy (Julie) Bergh of Coon Rapids, Bruce (Dawn) Bergh of Hermantown, and Kimberly (Michael) Thiry of Elk River; grandchildren, Jessica (Shane Sobczak) Bergh, Jeffrey (Jill) Bergh, Daniel Bergh, Jennifer (Mike) Kilian, Ryan (Michaela) Bergh, Tiffany (Matt) Peterson, Lindsay (Chris Vogt) Bergh, Jamie (Travis) Petersen, Calin Davidson, Emily (Jon) Fougner, Scott (Kendra) Thiry, and Katelyn Thiry; great-grandchildren, Carley, Violet, Jackson, Maxwell, Josie, Theodore, Hannah, Samuel, Georgia, Charlotte, Addison, and baby Peterson to arrive in November; her beloved sister, Helen Bergh, of Hermantown; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
VISITATION: 9am Monday, November 20th at Salem Lutheran Church, 4715 Hermantown Rd, with memorial service to follow at 11am.
Mom was blessed and thankful to have so many loving people in her life. The family would like to express gratitude for the many caregivers and staff from Primrose Retirement Community, St. Mary's Hospice, and Essentia Cancer Center.
