Geneva Willeck Obituary

Geneva Virginia ("Grandma G-G", "Genie") Willeck, 90, of Saginaw, MN, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Augustana Care Center, Moose Lake.
Geneva was born the youngest of eight children to John Lundberg and Hilma Peterson Lundberg on October 20, 1927, in Mahtowa on the family farm. She was raised by her father and cared for by her sisters on the farm after her mother fell ill from tuberculosis and passed away when Geneva was very young. Geneva attended Barnum High School up to the 9th grade. In 1941, she moved to Cloquet where she worked at the Wood Conversion and Diamond Match companies, and also at Bern's Lunch Counter. She met her beloved husband, Bill, in Cloquet and they were married in 1947.
Geneva and Bill made their home in Saginaw where they had two children, Jerry and Greg, who both still live in Saginaw. Together with Bill's brothers, they owned and operated Willeck's Fur Farm (a mink ranch) and Willeck Bros.Garage. In their spare time, they loved to travel around the country and the world, including a great European adventure.
Geneva loved the outdoors. She spoke often of fishing with her dad on Park Lake as a child and passed her love of fishing on to her children and grandchildren, spending countless hours with them with a line in the water. She also spent many hours gardening, camping, feeding her birds and squirrels, and watching the animals around her pond. She loved listening to talk radio, playing Scrabble, and enjoying a glass of wine or a Tom Collins with her family. Geneva enjoyed teaching her grandchildren some of her favorite pastimes, especially canning and baking. She loved watching Survivor and the MN Vikings, but was known to shut it off when either got too intense.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hilma; her husband Bill in 1993; and her seven siblings: sisters Ellen "Polly" (Willard) Larson and Pearl (Carl) Adamscheck of Seaside, Oregon, Betty (Phil) Parks and Irene (Eric) Linde of Tacoma, Washington, Lorraine (Dale) Fish of Saginaw; and brothers Roy Lundberg of Kansas City, and Tim (Margaret) Lundberg of Duluth.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry and Greg (Devon) of Saginaw; grandchildren, Tracy (Chris) Durovec of Esko, Allen (Amy) Willeck of Saginaw, Bekki (Dave) Morrison of Saginaw, Kari (Dan) Jacott of Champlin, Jaymi (Steve) Danz of Coon Rapids, and Mark (Angela) Sagvold of Saratoga Springs, Utah; great-grandchildren Ryan (Samantha) Guthrie, Emily Guthrie (Bryce Pfisthner), and Rilee Durovec; Gavin and Grady Willeck; Sawyer and Tucker Morrison; William, Jacob, Margret, and Andrew Jacott; Taylor, Maddison, Ashleigh and Savannah Danz; and Isabelle and Tyler Sagvold; and great-great grandson Liam; many nieces and nephews, including special niece Paula Saxin of Duluth; cousin Frannie Kunze of Vancouver, WA; and special friend, centenarian Martha Westlund of Saginaw.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 9th from 2-5 at the Sunrise Funeral Home in Hermantown, with a Memorial Service at 2 and dessert and fellowship to follow. Sunrise Funeral Home will be handling the cremation, and her ashes will be spread by her family at a later date.
