Donald Carl Waltenburg, age 87, of Hermantown, MN passed away on January 29, 2018 at St. Mary's Medical Center.
Donald was born in Duluth, MN to Clyde and Esther (Anderson) Waltenburg on November 24th, 1930. He attended Superior Central High School and graduated in 1949. He then joined the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. Donald briefly worked for Northern Pacific Railroad. He also had a 30-year career as a grocery warehouseman for Fleming Foods.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
Donald was survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jane; daughters, Kim (Jacky) Tarrillion, Peggy (Jon) Nelson; sons, John (Beth), Robert (Julie); 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Deanna (Dick) Welch; his beloved dog, Betsy; and many other family and friends.
VISITATION: 11am Monday, February 5th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, with a Celebration of Life to follow at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Animal Allies Humane Society, 4006 Airport Rd, Duluth, MN 55811.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Benedictine Adult Day Care and the physicians and staff at Essentia Health.
