Virginia (Peterson) Fyksen, age 95, of Duluth passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospice. She was born on November 4, 1920 to Carl and Ragna Peterson in Duluth, MN. Virginia graduated high school from Duluth Central and then went to work for Northwestern Bell telephone company and long time member of the telephone pioneers. She was united in marriage to Vernon Fyksen on May 4, 1946. Virginia enjoyed knitting, bingo, playing cards, baking, square dancing and traveled to all 50 states and many other foreign countries. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon, sisters Lillian Peterson, Ethel North, brother Robert Christianson and son-in-law Robert McKeever. Virginia is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Jerry) Reinhardt of New London, MN, Roberta McKeever of Duluth, and son James (Anne) Fyksen of Inver Grove Heights, MN. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral Service Wednesday, September 28, 2016 with vistitation at 11 am and Funeral at Noon at Sunrise Funeral Home 4798 Miller Trunk Highway, Hermantown, MN. Entombment at Sunrise Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials be made to St. Luke's Hospice. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the St. Luke's Hospice for the exceptional care they gave to Virginia in her final days. They would also like to thank Diamond Willow for the wonderful care they gave Virginia over the last few months. They would also like to express their gratitude to Meals on Wheels for their support over the past few years. Lastly, they would like to thank Virginia's granddaughter, Teresa, for her years of home care she provided that allowed Virginia to stay comfortably in her own home.
