Vernon D. Lowe Vernon D. Lowe, 88, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2016 at Edgewood Vista in Hermantown. Vern will be fondly remembered for the sparkle in his eye, his effort to make the best of every situation, his great stories, and especially his loving devotion to his wife and family. Vern was born in Berlin, New Hampshire to Glenn and Gladys Lowe. After high school Vern enlisted in the Air Force. He retired in March 1966, as Chief Master Sergeant after serving for 20 years. The following year he started a 25 year career at the Duluth Post Office. Hard working and well respected, he retired in 1992 as the Manager of GMF Operations. In October 1959 Vern married Lucille D. Patten while serving at the Baudette, Minnesota Air Base. They had a blended family of 6 children - Marcia Ann, Michael Allen, Carlton Ted, Dian Joyce, David Glenn, and Daniel Vernon. The family moved to the Duluth Air Force Base in 1961 and then to Proctor, MN in 1965 where Vern and his wife Lucille raised their family and resided until 2014. Many happy years were spent fishing, hiking and enjoying nature and the outdoors at their cabin on Comstock Lake and most recently their cabin on Prarie Lake, Floodwood, Minnesota. Preceding Vern in death were his parents; his loving wife Lucille of 56 years; his brothers Glenn, Wendall, David, Calvin, Leonard; his sisters Virginia, Barbara, Jean, Brenda; and Charlie his cat. He is survived by children Dian (Luis Berocay) Lowe, David (Savina Ghelfi) Lowe, Daniel Lowe, Marcia (Gary) Hagen, Michael (Tricia) Patten, Carl (Elizabeth) Patten; 39 grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchild and siblings; Lawrence, Charles and Joyce McFarlane Lowe. The family would like to thank Dr. David Arvold, St. Luke's Hospice and the staff of Edgewood Vista Assisted Living for their loving care of Vern. Service: A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at Sunrise Funeral Home, Hermantown with Military Honors.
