Robert R. (Bob) Gundstrom, 81, was called by God on February 10, 2016 in the care of St. Luke's Hospice and the Benedictine Health Center. He was born on October 11, 1934 to Robert G. and Josephine Gundstrom in Duluth. Bob graduated from Duluth East High School in 1952 and the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1955. He volunteered for the US Army in 1956 and served two years in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, where he was happily assigned to play his trumpet with the 82nd Airborne Division Army Band. A Duluth man at heart, he found the love of his life in Lois and they were married in 1959. Next to Lois, Bob loved music. He was an amazing trumpet player, starring in his dance band Bobby and the Blue Notes, which played backup for both Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong when they visited Duluth. Bob was a member of Glen Avon Presbyterian Church, and the AAD Temple Shriner's Drum and Bugle Corp, marching in many parades. He worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for the majority of his career as a real estate appraiser, retiring in 1999. Bob loved his family, his home, and his beautiful view of the lake. Bob is preceded in death by his sister Laura Fischer. He is survived by his wife Lois; sister Joan Beverly Cismoski of Superior and twin sister Roberta Owen Martin of Texas; son Robert K. (Terese) Gundstrom; daughter Suzanne (Alan) Sabroski; six grandchildren, and one great-grandson. A special thank you to the staff at Benedictine Health Center who showed dignity, kindness, and respect to Bob; and to St. Luke's Hospice care in his final days. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Glen Avon Presbyterian Church, with visitation one hour before.
