Raymond Mitchell, 85, of Duluth, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 15th, 2017. He was born in Newberry, SC to Witherow "Worth" & Brunell Mitchell. Raymond retired in 1972 as a Staff Sgt from the Air Force where he was a Food Service Supervisor. He served overseas during the Korean and Vietnam wars and served stateside in Duluth until his retirement. He worked at UMD in housing and did building, grounds, & maintenance for BenTec, Inc., among other businesses. He was an avid talk radio listener and caller; he loved a good political or sports debate. Raymond was a generous and helpful man. He was dedicated to his family and would do anything for them. He helped raise many nieces and nephews. To Raymond, family was everything. His grandkids were his world. Raymond is preceded in death by his wife, Bessie; and siblings, Wynette "Margaret" Mitchell-Downing, J.C. Mitchell, Abu-B. Ali, and John B. Mitchell. Raymond is survived by his son, Michael (Debra) Mitchell; grandchildren, Trent Anderson, Tiara (Joseph Goette) Anderson, Darian Plumb, Morgan (Daneus Tony) Mitchell, Omri Mitchell, and Amelia Mitchell; great-granddaughter, Evianah Tony; sister, Mildred Mitchell; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Private family services to be held at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Highway, Hermantown.
