Janice K. Rysman

Janice K. Rysman, age 69, of Hermantown, passed away on Wednesday, June 8th, 2016, at Benedictine Health Care Center.  Jan was blessed to have her family and friends share in the difficult journey and sad disease of dementia that took her too soon.  She was born to Ernest and Esther Sjodin on July 12, 1946, in Duluth.  She grew up in the Nopeming area and graduated from Proctor High School in 1964.  Following graduation, she worked as a CNA at St. Luke's.  She continued her nursing career at St. Mary's for 36 years until her retirement. On October 26, 1968, Jan was united in marriage to Richard Rysman.  Jan loved her 60's and 70's music, B105, singing since she was a child, and eating chocolate and shrimp.  She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Grace Lutheran Church Choir, Red Hat Society, and participated in the Women's Arthritis Support Group.  Jan is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Rick Sjodin. Jan is survived by her husband, Richard Rysman; daughter, Rebecca "Becky" (Nicholas) Mathiowetz; granddogs, Dante, Jackson, Sugar; sisters, Betty (Dick) Rowe, Judy (Ray) Wiles; and other dear family and friends. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, June 16th, 2016, at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Phil Berge officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Sunrise Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the family or Grace Lutheran Church. The family offers a special thank you to staff at Greenview Residence of Hibbing and Benedictine Health Care Center.
