James Nichols Obituary

James Nichols age 83, of Superior, WI passed away peacefully Saturday April 9, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital.   He was born on July 17, 1932 to Leslie and Minnie (Nelson) Nichols in Two Harbors, MN. James graduated from Proctor High School. James was in the logging and excavating business partnered with Fran White for several years. He worked for Ecklund Brothers Construction Company for over 25 years. One of his proudest moments was building Spirit Mountain. James was also a heavy equipment operator for the Local #49 for 20 plus years and remained a member. He was also a devoted humble servant of Alcholics Anonymous for over 34 years. He was a life long fisherman with several trips to Alaska and Canada with very close friends Garth Stoneburner, Rick DeFeyter, Steve McLachlan, Dave Knapp and Tom Hoff. He enjoyed deer hunting with the Eckstrom boys as well. James was a dedicated volunteer driver for St. Louis County Social Services for over 25 yrs. He was the #1 Vikings fan. James is preceded in death by both his parents, brother Donald Nichols, niece Susie McGovern, sister Maxine Eckstrom, brother-in-law Kenny Eckstrom and great - grandson, Aubin. Survived by daughters: Lori (Paul) Fosness, Linda (Kevin) Bushnell, Shelly (Ron) Perkins, Darcey St. John, Sheryl (Scott) Sunde, Dawn Williams, Debra (Todd) Hess, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, step-brother Gary Dahl, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service Sunday April 17, 2016 at 2 pm with visitation one hour prior to service at Sunrise Funeral Home 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown, MN 55811.
