Edward Roy Howland

Edward Howland 97 of Duluth, MN left this earth to be with the Lord on July 26, 2016. He was born April 25, 1919 in Janesville, WI, and raised on a farm in Sumner WI, with his parents Roy and Eva (Drafahl) Howland. He recalled working on a farm was fun, as there was always something to do. After the chores were done, you could find Ed on the baseball diamond. He played baseball in High School, on a Semi-Pro Farm League and for the US Army team. He appreciated Nature, and would spend as much time as possible fishing, hunting and trapping. He loved to find a new trail to hike, as well as finding blueberries. He and Eldora enjoyed bowling and the many friends they met while bowling Country Lanes North. Ed served in the CCC Camp in Manitowish, WI, and the US Army during WWII. Before coming to Duluth to be a garment cutter for Northshore Manufacture, he also traveled the US as a migrant farm worker.  In 1965 Ed started at the USPS in Duluth as a postal clerk, retiring in 1984. He was known for his sharp mind, great sense of humor, ability to get along well with people. Ed always enjoyed following all the activities his children and grandchildren. He married Eldora Gunderson in Rice Lake WI on March 30, 1956. Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife Eldora, his parents Roy & Eva, and his only sibling Margaret Marsh. Survived by his children: Stuart (Michelle) Howland - Sheboygan, WI, Robyn (Mark) Johnson - Chicago, IL, Mary-Jo (Robert Little) Howland - Duluth, MN, Troy (Heather Angell) Howland - Rochester, MN, 11 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Saturday July 30th at 2 pm with a visitation 1 hour prior. At Mount Olive Baptist Church 1500 Swan Lake Rd Duluth , MN.
