Duane Richard Schroeder, 92, of Duluth, went to be with the love of his life on Sunday, March 5, 2017. Duane was born on June 18, 1924, in Wonewoc, WI, to Emma & Edwin F. $chroeder Sr. They moved from town to town until they settled in the Kenwood area of Duluth. Duane was a decorated WWII veteran, with 2 Purple Hearts. He served his country in the Navy, then turned to the Marines; making Sgt./Corpman. Upon returning home, he met Eileen Blackwood and they married on Sept. 17, 1949. They raised 4 children, and spent his life loving all of them. He was the manager of the family business. His father started Schrader Drug, where there was always a Schroeder on duty. He was a member of the AAD temple, where he was a clown at the circus. Past Captain, he played the drums in the Drum and Bugle Corp. He played in parades around the area. He enjoyed packing up the RV and kids and having family outings for the weekend. He loved taking the grandkids to the cabin, pontoon boat riding, fishing, and just being in the outdoors. Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; grandchild, Rylee Schroeder; daughter-in-law, Meryln Schroeder; brother, Kenneth Schroeder; brother-in-laws, Dale and Clarke Blackwood; and sister-in-laws, Betty and Mary Anne Schroeder, Lynne Davis, and Berta Blackwood. Duane is survived by his children, Dale, Cliff (Mary), Carla (Rick) Williams, and Carole Martinez; grandchildren, Rachael (James) Bloom, Kenneth (Diandra) Schroeder, Cassandra (Jesse) Hansen, Richard Schroeder, Robert Williams, Theresa (Stacey) Williams, Lindsey (Ryan) Sweeney, and Courtney (John) Knebel; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. VISITATION: 12:30 pm Monday, March 13th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown, with service to follow at 1 pm. Family requests that no flowers are sent.
