Donald Eugene Thoreson (WAØDCH), 85, of Hermantown, MN, passed away on January 23, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital. Don was born on April 8, 1931, to Albert & Alma Thoreson in Duluth, MN. He graduated from Central High School in 1949, and married Arlene Alcumbrack on May 22, 1954, at St. Jean's Catholic Church. Don was drafted into the United States Army in 1956, serving six consecutive years and earning the Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, he joined the Teamsters Union and worked for St. Germain's Glass for the remainder of his career. Don was a ham radio operator for over 30 years and was an active member in the Beargrease Amateur Radio Coalition for 20+ years. He was also a member of the Duluth Archery Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Though a man of many hobbies, Don was first and foremost a family man. He was a loving husband, and incredible father, and a dedicated grandfather. He cherished his time with his family and was devoted to his beloved wife and three daughters. Don was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Joyce (Jack) Boily. Don is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Arlene; his three treasured daughters, Sharon (Ira) Blaylock, Karen (Jon) Sirois, and Pam (Glenn) Peterson; his cherished grandchildren, Chris (Karla), Janelle (Donny), Michael (Ashley), Nicholas, Patrick, Brandon, and Brody; precious great-grandchildren, Brennan, Rylee, Alexis, and Eliot; sister, Lorraine Clancy; sister-in-law, Jean Olson; and many nieces and nephews. "You are not forgotten loved one, nor will you ever be, as long as life and memory last, we will remember thee. We miss you now, our hearts are sore, as time goes by, we miss you more, your loving smile, your gentle face, no one can fill your vacant place." Rest in Peace. VISITATION: 1 pm Tuesday, February 28th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown, with memorial service to follow at 2 pm.
