Barbara Forrest Obituary

"I don't want to end up simply having visited this world" Mary Oliver When Death Comes Barbara J. Fawcett Macaulay Forrest did not simply visit this world. Barbara was born in Duluth, MN to Dr. Keith R. and Helen Fawcett. She learned life and shared adventures with her sister Carolyn and brothers Keith Peers and John in the Glen Avon area of Duluth. Barbara honed her skating skills around Washburn School and the orininal Duluth Curling Club. After graduating from Stanbrook Hall she toured with the Ice Follies for two seasons. She married George Macaulay III and raised four children: Cynthia, Malcolm, Elizabeth and Maragaret while living in Granite Falls, Grand Forks, Robbinsdale and Duluth. Barbara lived graciousness. She also lived grit. She taught figure skating and worked in the development kitchen of Multifood Int. She was the office manager for the Duluth Playhouse and Courage Center Duluth and a store manager for Hickory Farms. Barbara was also a dedicated and dependable volunteer at the CHUM food shelf and Peace UCC. She was a passionate advocate for the Skyline Preservation effort and all things promoting the beauty of Duluth and The Lake. Most of all she shepherded all the generations of her family. She had the courage to continue to live and learn throughout her life. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Carolyn Lee; brother, Keith Peers; first husband, George; second husband, Vincent Forrest; grandson, Maxwell Macaulay. She is survived by her grateful children, Cynthia Macaulay (Dennis Angell), Malcom (Anne) Macaulay, Elizabeth Macaulay (Cooper Wiggen), Margaret Macaulay (David Darsow); beloved brother, John (Judy) Fawcett; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara died on Palm Sunday 2016 at her home in the company of her children. Barbara did not simply visit this world. Barbara embraced and wrangled and blessed this world. Barb's family sends a special thanks to the Hospice group from Essentia Health, Dr. Carol Farchmin, and Rev. Kathryn Nelson for wonderful listening and guidance and loving care. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 1st at Peace UCC in Duluth, MN. The service will be preceded by a visitation from 9:30-11:00 AM. Memorials may be directed to the CHUM Food Shelf or the music program at Peace UCC in Duluth, MN.
